Our Whispering Hearts

Wild storms and lightning raged through the night,

flooding the courtyards already heavy with rain,

as fire from the skies flashed a million times

sending rumbling messages through my sacred time.

How do we read the thunder that rattles the walls

of houses and fills our hearts with awe?

I listen to the stillness of my whispering heart.

Our gentle loving and merciful God has a wild side,

and storms demolish towns and set fire to things.

Creation scatters wildflowers along our path,

but it also uproots trees and floods our homes.

We learn something about beginning again.

May we remember to reach out our arms

to touch and embrace each other,

and may we never forget to raise them in prayer

to reach for the Source and Essence of this life

we have been so graciously given.
