Oasis in the desert of longing

I wash the dust from my Beloved’s feet,
as he wanders in the desert
gathering those who have lost their way.
Tears of compassion fall
upon those precious sandaled feet,
as I caress and soothe his weariness
with the softness of my hair.
I gently remove the sandals and anoint
those tired feet with scented oils and perfume.
The quiet oasis of the heart
offers shelter from the burning sun.
Tenderness quenches the deeper thirst for love.
Spirit finds its wings when the lips of souls
meet in the deepest kiss of all.
Night brings cool winds and rest.
